Handheld Laser Welding Stainless Steel

Connect the production requirement to the right machine family, exact configuration, facility plan, delivery scope, ownership path, and technical resources.

Control fit-up, shielding gas, heat tint and joint acceptance

Stainless-steel handheld laser welding depends on alloy, thickness, joint type, gap, edge condition, filler wire, shielding gas, travel speed, wobble, focus, workholding and required penetration.

Application details

  • Alloy and finish, including brushed, polished or coated surface.
  • Butt, lap, fillet, corner or edge joint and required weld size.
  • Gap, mismatch, edge preparation, fixture and access.
  • Filler wire alloy and diameter when required.
  • Appearance, heat tint, distortion, leakage, strength and downstream cleaning.

Shielding and cleanliness

Use the approved shielding gas, flow and nozzle. Oil, fingerprints, oxide, adhesive and contamination can affect porosity, appearance and consistency. Back purging can be relevant for some penetration and oxidation requirements.

Validate the result

Visual appearance alone does not prove penetration or strength. Critical parts can require sections, testing, qualified procedures and customer acceptance.
