Handheld Laser Welding Aluminum

Connect the production requirement to the right machine family, exact configuration, facility plan, delivery scope, ownership path, and technical resources.

Aluminum requires alloy, oxide, fit-up and filler review

Aluminum handheld laser welding is sensitive to alloy and temper, oxide layer, surface contamination, reflectivity, heat conduction, joint design, gap, filler selection, shielding gas, focus, travel speed and workholding.

Before sample testing

  • Identify base alloys and tempers for both parts.
  • Define joint type, thickness, gap, mismatch, edge preparation and required penetration.
  • Select filler alloy and diameter when filler is required.
  • Clean and prepare the surface by an approved method without introducing contamination.
  • Define appearance, porosity, cracking, distortion and strength acceptance.

System review

Confirm source and head approval, back-reflection protection, wire feeder, liner and tip, shielding gas, nozzle, cooling and Class 4 safety system.

Do not generalize from steel

Parameters, fit-up tolerance and acceptance for stainless or mild steel do not transfer automatically to aluminum. Use representative coupons and production parts.

Request an aluminum welding review.

Planning pathway

Connect the requirement to the complete machine project

Application and capacity

Define material, geometry, thickness or capacity, production volume, quality, workflow, and future work.

Machine and facility

Compare configuration, controller, options, utilities, extraction, footprint, access, unloading, and placement.

Ownership and support

Confirm price path, delivery, startup, training, warranty, service, parts, financing, rental, used, or trade-in options.
