TPI depends on the section thickness and whether the work is solid, tube, or structural.
Choose a pitch that keeps multiple teeth engaged without packing the gullets. Thin-wall material generally needs a finer pitch; thick solid stock generally needs a coarser pitch. Variable-pitch blades can help across a practical range, but they do not replace correct speed, feed, coolant, break-in, and workholding.
