Does laser cleaning damage the base metal?

What do I need to send to get a quote?

Part drawings, DXF files or photos of a representative part are worth more than a machine model number, because they let the specification be checked against the actual work instead of against a guess. If you are comparing specific machines, name them — it is faster to explain a difference than to guess at one.

Do I need a forklift or a loading dock?

You need one or the other, or a rigging service. Machines in this class ship crated on a flatbed and are not liftgate-deliverable — a 6,000 to 10,000+ lb crate comes off with a forklift of adequate capacity, a dock and pallet jack combination, or a rigger with the right equipment. Check the forklift's rated capacity at the required load center rather than its nameplate rating, and confirm the path from the truck to the machine's final position clears the crate height and width. Getting the crate off the truck is only half the job: budget for machine movers if the final position is more than a short straight run from the door.

Is installation and training included?

Installation and training scope is quoted per machine and per site rather than being uniform across the catalog, because what it takes to commission a 6 kW fiber laser and a manual band saw are not comparable jobs. The variables that set the scope are machine class, whether the site is ready on arrival (power run and terminated, compressed air, ventilation, foundation and ambient temperature within spec), and how many operators need training. Ask for installation and training to appear as itemized lines on the quote rather than as the word "included," so you can see what happens if the site is not ready on the scheduled date.

How often do nozzles and protective lenses need replacing?

Third-party machine service is evaluated case by case, and the deciding factors are the laser source brand, the control platform and whether parts are obtainable for that specific machine in the US. Send the make and model, laser source brand and wattage, control brand, serial number, year of manufacture, a description of the fault or the service required, and the site ZIP code. Machines built on mainstream sources and controls are generally supportable; orphaned imports running proprietary controls with no US parts channel often are not, and it is better for both sides to establish that before a truck rolls.
